Johannesburg — 35 nights

Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.Get out of town with these interesting Johannesburg side-trips: Pretoria (Longstreet Art Lovers 1932, Zipline, &more), Spas (in Benoni) and Balloon Rides (in Muldersdrift). There's lots more to do: see the interesting displays at Apartheid Museum, try to win big at Emperors Palace, contemplate the long history of Mandela House, and see exotic creatures in open habitats at a safari tour.
To see photos, ratings, other places to visit, and other tourist information, refer to the Johannesburg day trip website.
If you are flying in from The Netherlands, the closest major aiports are OR Tambo International Airport and Pilanesberg International Airport. In July, plan for daily highs up to 22°C, and evening lows to 5°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
