29 days in Johannesburg & Cape Town Itinerary

Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.

You'll find plenty of places to visit near Johannesburg: Ukutula Conservation Center (in Brits), Pretoria (National Library of South Africa, Kruger House Museum, &more) and Spas (in Benoni). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Apartheid Museum, steep yourself in history at Mandela House, take an in-depth tour of Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct, and try to win big at Emperors Palace.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Johannesburg is an approximately 14.5-hour flight. The time zone difference moving from Central European Standard Time to South Africa Standard Time is 1 hour. In March, Johannesburg is much warmer than Amsterdam - with highs of 30°C and lows of 17°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Tue) to allow time to fly to Cape Town.

You can fly from Johannesburg to Cape Town in 3.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. March in Cape Town sees daily highs of 30°C and lows of 17°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Mon) to allow enough time to fly back home.
