Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.
Kick off your visit on the 9th (Sat): browse the different shops at Jack Friedman Sandton City, then steep yourself in history at Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct, and then examine the collection at Apartheid Museum. On your second day here, contemplate the long history of Mandela House, tour the pleasant surroundings at Lion and Safari Park, and then Head underground at Sterkfontein Cave.
