The Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe)
Explore the high brown walls and various entrances of The Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe), a landmark building of the Old Town and a popular tourist destination. Featuring crenelated stone battlements with upright merlons, embrasures, and entrances with pointed arches, the fort with its inner courtyard has been converted into a cultural center dotted with curio shops. Built by the Omanis as a defense against the Portuguese in the 17th century, this remains the oldest standing structure in the Stone Town. Buy some tingatinga paintings and traditional handicrafts from the shops, or watch a performance in the fort's open-air amphitheater. Very old and iconic point in the Stone Town, built by Omani Arabs in 1699. A visit here does not take a lot of time and is quite worth doing. Inside there is an amphitheater, where the Zanzibar International Film Festival takes place, and many various shops. I recommend walking up the walls to see the views. In one of the round towers there is an interesting art gallery and shop.

17th Century ancient history. The amphitheater is so good and the architecture is also quite good. Little shops are there near the amphitheater and there is also a small cafe to for refreshments. The place is neat and clean. The entry ticket is also free. Do check this place out.
