Mount Kibo, Kilimanjaro National Park

As one of the three volcanoes of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Kibo stands as the highest point in Africa and is the only peak to retain its icecap year-round. A climbing destination, this peak (which is more than 24 km (15 mi) wide) and can induce altitude sickness for inexperienced and unprepared visitors. Climbers should plan their route carefully and take an experienced guide. Some routes offer lodging, food, and other accommodation services along the way for convenience. Alternatively, just visit one of the lower camps and experience the mountains from base camp. Consider going during January, February, or September for the driest and best weather conditions.
