Visit the modern day acropolis of Union Buildings, the official seat of the South African government that overlooks the city. The neo-classical buildings were built using local sandstonemore than a century ago, and the iconic twin towers are said to represent the Afrikaans and English languages. You won't be able to tour the buildings themselves, but you can stroll through the terraced gardens surrounding them for views of the city below. The gardens feature numerous monuments honoring influential South African figures, including a towering bronze statue of Nelson Mandela. • Impressive building but that is it, nothing much else to see. Over the road to gardens and Nelson Mandela Statue. There is a good panoramic view of Pretoria from the top of the steps.

  • This pretentious government complex began to be built in 1910, with the formation of the South African Union. Inspired by ancient Greek architecture, the author of the project, British architect...

  • No entry fee is required. The upper area is well maintained. The garden is beautiful to be around. It’s a perfect place for a picnic or just “sight seeing”. The view of the city & the sunset from there are beautiful as well. There are a couple of photographers who will want to take pictures of you, but they won’t harass you. There are also a couple of homeless people/beggars who will ask for your food. There aren’t many security guards so it’s advisable to come in groups, always beware of your surroundings and stay safe.
  • Beautiful place to visit with a stunning view of parts of Pretoria. It's easily accessible from different directions. The gardens are well maintained. But wow, the toilets stink. I hope they've improved since the last time. It's a shock to be surrounded by so much beauty and history, and get hit by the smell of dirty toilets. It's a disgrace. There's such a nice vibe here and for a moment you feel part of history as your eyes drink in those beautiful surroundings and the massive statue of Madiba. I love going there.
