Create an itinerary including Lowveld National Botanical Garden
Learn about plants and enjoy views of scenic waterfalls at Lowveld National Botanical Garden, a plant sanctuary at the confluence of the Crocodile and Nels rivers. Boasting over 2,000 plant species and one of the largest collections of cycads in Africa, the gardens play an important role in preserving the variety of wildlife in the region. See marvelous yellow bush lilies, scarlet flame creepers, and clivias, then cross a suspension bridge to soak in some fabulous scenery. An observation point provides memorable views of the cascades, with the chance to spot a Narina trogon or, if you're lucky, an African finfoot soaring through the treetops. After your adventure, pop in for a bite at the onsite cafe. For Lowveld National Botanical Garden and beyond, use our Nelspruit trip planning tool to get the most from your Nelspruit vacation.

  • One of the best Botanical gardens in the country and a real gem in Mbombela. There is just so much to see and the gardens are well curated and taken care of. There are restaurants and also many spots to stop and picnic. The place has great signage and this combined with the maps ensures you always have an idea where you are. My favourite was the African rainforest, the suspension bridge and the very powerful waterfalls.
  • It's the most beautiful, quiet and peaceful place I've ever been at. Sounds of trees, birds and sweet swiftly breeze. I love the garden, the waterfall and the whole place around! I'd go again and again
