  • Durban Botanic Gardens, is Africa's oldest surviving botanical gardens, established in 1849 - it is also Durban's oldest public institution. It is a lovely place with lots of plants, trees and flowers - a nature paradise. They do host a lot of functions and events from Concerts at night to light displays during December. It is unfortunate that some of the upkeep has dropped in standards. A lot of areas were more taken care of and now it's sad to see parts of it in the state that it is in. Free entrance and limited parking. It would be great to see the place improve. Update: I noticed on my last visit that the place much neater and better taken care off. Lots to see and it's an oasis of peace and quiet, a nice nature sanctuary in the middle of a city. Thanks to Vishnu for the guided tour, very interesting and lots to learn from the friendly, knowledgeable staff. Bumped up the review to 4 stars.
  • It's always an absolute pleasure to visit the botanic gardens. It's one of those amazing open spaces in Durban where it costs you nothing to visit. Unless you want to spend money on food and drinks which are available. Great spot to just go and be in nature.... Also really awesome Music at the Lake events. Well worth attending these.
