  • We did the sunrise at Dune 45, the climb was great but still tough especially when climbing the steeper part of the dune. Murder on the quads!! That said, it was all worth it to watch the sunrise...

  • Beautiful sand and just nothing else. Crowds seemed to frequent early in the morning hitting peak between 8am and 12 noon or in the late afternoon after 4pm during golden hour. But if you really want exclusivity and are brave enough to face the blistering heat the middle of the day towards 4pm this almost guarantees there will be no one there, you'll have the dunes all to yourself for beautiful pictures... as well as sunburn. There are also long drops towards the entrance of the dunes where the road signs are. I had closed shoes and flip flops and with either there was sand or sinking involved, I recommend wellington like boots (wore these at deadvlei) that got some sand in them. Perhaps also knee length durable socks would work pretty well. Sand gets very hot during the day and during the windier times sand starts to sting with the wind .
  • This hike up Dune45 is not for the faint hearted but the view is surely worth it.
