Diaz Point, Luderitz

Admire pristine nature at Diaz Point, the tip of the Lüderitz Peninsula and part of the area's nature reserve. Protruding some 50 m (164 ft) into the South Atlantic, the point offers exciting and sweeping views of the ocean. A 53 m (174 ft) tall red and white banded lighthouse guards the tip, but is unfortunately not accessible to the public. When the tide goes down, look out beyond the lighthouse to see the Diaz Cross, erected on the spot where Portuguese navigator Bartholomew Diaz first set up a stone cross on the headland in 1488. Keep your eyes peeled and you might also see Cape fur seals basking on the rocks.
