Create an itinerary including Damara Living Museum
Learn some bush skills on a guided tour and get an insight into one of the oldest traditional nations in Namibia at Damara Living Museum, a world-famous museum of rock engravings and home to the nearly extinct Damara people. In an attempt to reconstruct the almost lost culture, a traditional village with thatched huts was set up at the foot of a boulder. As you explore the village, local women will show you which plants from the bush are good for food, medicine, and perfume, while men will teach you how to set up snare traps and light a fire using traditional methods. You'll see a mixture of hunter-gatherer and cattle-herding lifestyles, with some of the Damara making their living selling minerals. • We loved our visit to the Living Village of the Damara people. The guide was so enthusiastic, knowledgeable and funny which made it educative but also fun for the kids. Beforehand we thought it might be too touristy but because they interact and are not pushy in their sells we had an awesome time. Would highly recommend especially with kids.
  • Tradition but a little bit mixed with modern...must see though.
