Take an intense 85 km (53 mi) trail through the gigantic 550 m (1,804 ft) deep, 27 km (17 mi) wide, and 160 km (100 mi) long ravine, featuring some awe-inspiring scenery, with stony formations covered by drought-resistant plants. Cut by the longest interior river in Namibia--the intermittently flowing Fish River--the canyon features hard gneiss bedrocks and awe-inspiring horizontal dolomite strata. The gorge is accessible only from May to mid-September, due to unbearable temperatures at other times of the year. The Fish River Trail usually takes five days to complete.
