Create an itinerary including Chellah
Walk through the atmospheric streets of Chellah, the ruins of a medieval Muslim necropolis and part of metropolitan Rabat's World Heritage Site. Fortifications surround much of the complex, built by the Marinids in the 13th century CE and including a mosque, royal tombs, and minaret. Ruins from previous constructions lie throughout the site, dating back as far as the Phoenicians. The minaret still stands, along with the sturdy defensive wall, though much of the site lies recumbent, overgrown by plants and fruit trees, and used as a nesting ground by storks. • You can only walk along the ancient walls and cannot go in by yourself. You may tip a guide to take you in but it’s not worth it. The scenery from hill is beautiful though.
  • The Chellah is a medieval archeological site on the south side of the Bouregreg River in Rabat, Morocco. It's closed for renovation now, but the hiking trail around the place is easy and fun. And the surrounding views are astonishing.
