Create an itinerary including Black River Gorges National Park
Explore the range of Mauritian plant and animal life at Black River Gorges National Park, a protected area that includes the last of the nation's rainforest. Encompassing around two percent of the country's total space, the area is formally protected from further deforestation after being proclaimed a national park in 1994. Spot rusa deer and wild pigs, along with endemic species like the Mauritian flying fox, Mauritius kestrel, and the pink pigeon. The variety in the wildlife comes with the area's diversity of climate and habitat, with humid upland forest, dry lowland forest, and heathland all here. • The descent down the gorge from Petrin is definitely worth doing but be warned, it is incredibly steep path traversing tree roots and rocks, with ropes to help you along. Unfortunately heavy rain...

  • Clean place, still you have some monkeys 🐒 🙈 🙊 around, if you dump food in bins, be sure to find it outside. Some local vendors of souvenirs and also some food stuff around. Parking available for bus 🚌, cars 🚗 etc, scenic view of mountains and greenery, you have kiosk to sit and enjoy a Lunch. Nice family time.
  • Very nice and beautiful park. Don't know all the router, the one we took was a bit wild. You need to be fit to take the Maccabee route all the way to the top. It gets very slippery the higher you go and you need to use the trees and roots to hoist yourself up in places. Be very careful going down. This route has breaktaking views. Make sure you take enough water with and proper shoes. There are nice picnic tables to make use off. Lots of pretty birds 🐦 around.
