Take an ox cart through spectacular scenery and hundreds of years of botanical history at Avenue of the Baobabs, a red dirt road lined on both sides with ancient baobab trees. The giant trees along this 260 m (853 ft) section of the road draw tourists from all corners of the globe. Some of the sacred trees date back over 800 years; in the past, they stood as part of a larger forest, and early Arab travelers described them as ripped up and placed back into the earth upside-down. Reaching for the skies at 30 m (98 ft), the baobabs have a diameter of up to 11 m (36 ft) and circumference of up to 50 m (160 ft). It is most recommended to visit the avenue by mid afternoon and fist go to the "Baobab Amoureux" and be sure to be back for the sunset on the avenue. There is a good restaurant-bar and safe parking

Is on of the 5 places for which we organized our 2 weeks trip to Mada. It is breathtaking. We had the amazing opportunity to be there on the full moon. They managed to make the village work through an association that realised a small restaurant and a baobab growing from seed place. You can plan your own baobab on the avenue if you want to. Souvenir shop available, don't hesitate! Buy that baobab honey jar.

It's a nature's phenomenon. The road to the Avenue is atrocious - huge potholes, muddy, puddles, goes through lakes and rivers. Your body is bruised allover by the time you get there. But it's worth it. The best times are sunrise and sunset for the most amazing photos of this area. With your back facing the village, take the path right after the lake on your right, to have the best view of the baobabs over the lake at sunset. Highly recommend and worth every pothole and bruise 😉
