Create an itinerary including Nata Bird Sanctuary
Africa's largest breeding ground of lesser and greater flamingos, Nata Bird Sanctuary is home to 165 bird species, some game, and other wildlife. The sanctuary started off as a community-managed project in 1988. Its international importance was soon recognized by the Kalahari Conservation Society, which contributed significant funds and engaged locals to relocate their cattle and build a network of dirt tracks. The front desk offers guides with a bird list that you can pick up before hopping on an all-terrain vehicle and exploring the sanctuary grounds. Look for long-beaked pelicans, eagles, kingfishers, and blue-cheeked bee-eaters. Take a look at our Nata online journey planner to schedule your visit to Nata Bird Sanctuary and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • This time of year the birds are few and far between. We did get lovely shots of a mated pair of Ostrich. The rosy spoonbills were in action as well. We could see how great it would be here when...

  • Amazing views of the salt pan, unlike any other landscapes. Saw wildebeest, ostriches, jackals, flamingoes and many birds. Didn't get to see the sunset, but the cloud formations were awesome. Well worth the visit!!!
  • Nice place to see the sunset. If wanna see flamingos best before august.
