Unwind in the lush greenery surrounding calm waters at Bab's Dock, a private lake owned by a Belgian couple. Swim, canoe, sail, play volleyball, or just lie in a hammock in this retreat on the the water's edge. A thatched terrace shelters a European-style restaurant with tables and decks made of local wood. Afterwards, take a stroll on the long boardwalk stretching out over the lake's still surface. You need to call in advance so they can send a designated boat for you, taking you from the parking lot to the restaurant through a thick mangrove forest. • Mangrove ride to the place sets the tone for some adventure. Menu isn’t all that extensive but you might forgive that because of the serenity of the place. Love it, generally.
  • As always, it’s a pleasure to visit Babsdock. Before anything else, please note that this place only opens during the weekends & public holidays. THEY ARE CLOSED DURING THE WEEK DAYS. It’s pretty far from Cotonou city so be prepared for a long drive. You’ll need a speed boat to access the main place & this costs 2,500cfa (price for to & fro. A ticket will be given to you at the entrance, payments will be made later on before you leave. This is compulsory, they’ll check before you’re allowed into the boat headed back) The drive 🚤 leads you through the most beautiful mangrove you’ll ever come across. I kid you not, it is absolutely stunning! When you’ve arrived, you can relax & get refreshments or not. It’s all dependent on your preference. Kayaking costs 1,500cfa, same as sailing. Good thing about this is there are double kayaks available so you can still experience this if you’re scared. An instructor can join you & do the most part of paddling. Here, you can find some donkeys & monkeys. The toilets are pretty decent & there’s an accommodation here for people who’d want to stay over. It’s very limited I hear so you’ll need to call & confirm. I personally think you’ll have more fun if you don’t visit alone. Have someone share in the fun with you.
