As Malawi's second-largest city, Blantyre represents the country's main commercial and industrial hub and boasts a dynamic array of food options.
Visiting Lake Chilwa and Mount Mulanje will get you outdoors. Explore hidden gems such as Tiyamike Sewing and Malawi Stock Exchange. Get out of town with these interesting Blantyre side-trips: Majete Wildlife Reserve (in Chikwawa) and King African Rifles Monument (in Zomba). Drive from Likoma Island to Karonga in 17.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and bus; or do a combination of ferry and bus. In July, plan for daily highs up to 27°C, and evening lows to 20°C. On the 10th (Wed), you'll travel to Lilongwe.

Lilongwe

The capital city of Malawi and its largest, Lilongwe serves as an important center of economy and transportation for the area.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Nkhoma Mountain and Maula Cathedral. Escape the urban bustle at Kuti Wildlife Reserve and Nature Sanctuary. Step out of Lilongwe to go to Dedza and see Chongoni Rock-Art Area, which is approximately 1h 15 min away. There's lots more to do: pause for some photo ops at World War I Memorial, ponder the world of politics at Parliament Building, don't miss a visit to Kumbali Cultural Village, and browse the different shops at Old Town Mall.
