Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.Get out of town with these interesting Johannesburg side-trips: The Cradle of Humankind (in Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site), The Oval (in Centurion) and Pretoria (Voortrekker Monument & Horseback Africa).
