Johannesburg

— 13 nights

City of Light

Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.
Get out of town with these interesting Johannesburg side-trips: Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site (The Cradle of Humankind & Sterkfontein Cave), Pretoria (Union Buildings, Voortrekker Monument, &more) and Zipline (in Rustenburg). Spend the 4th (Fri) spotting exotic species with a safari tour. Spend the 11th (Fri) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's much more to do: see the interesting displays at Apartheid Museum, try to win big at Gold Reef City, wander the streets of Maboneng Precinct, and learn about all things military at South African National Museum of Military History.
