A millennia of Sudanese history from black pharaohs to the black sultanate comes to life at Sudan National Museum. Built in 1965, the modernist building overlooking the confluence of the two Niles houses an impressive collection of stone relics from various civilizations that once lived in the vast territory of present-day Sudan. From Stone Age artifacts to Sudanese Nubia, the three-story building also houses Coptic frescoes and mosaics and elaborate Islamic art with jewelry, coins, and amulets. The museum grounds has a collection of statues and remains from three temples of Sudanese Nubia rescued from the dam construction site here; they're reconstructed over a pool representing the Nile. This place is a must if you have or plan to visit the pyramids, plus there is a well done exhibition upstairs of Sudan's Christian period. It was 10 SDG to get in and I had the place to myself, be sure to walk to the other buildings to the right of the entrance ( as you walk in) to see more ruins that have been relocated to the museum. Outside in the parking lot there are artists selling oil, watercolour, and coffee paintings...pretty cool and always good to support a local artist.

Learnt a lot about the tribes and people of Sudan as well as their history. I also learnt a lot fascinating things about the pyramids and the similarity in culture with Egypt. Place is affordable and staff are extremely friendly.
