The Avis Dam is a dam outside of Windhoek, Namibia. It was built in 1933 by the South African colonial authorities. It first flooded in April 1934, but only exceeded 75% again in 2007.
There are at least 187 different species of birds.

  • It is a fab place. The weather was great when we got here. Improve on signages, and you have a mega winner here.  more »
  • The dam was build in 1933 during the South African colonial period. At the moment of our visit (Nov 2020) there was not one drop of water. Nice walk  more »
  • If you make sure to go when it's busy, around sunset it feels safe. Looks great after the recent rain
  • Avis Dam is a great place to do a walk near Windhoek. For birds it's really great, including the potential to see a number of Namibia's specials, such as rockrunner.
