Sossusvlei, Namib-Naukluft Park

4.8
Sossusvlei represents a "pan" or lake bed, dry except for an occasional flood, surrounded by towering reddish sand dunes. Nestled in the Namib desert within Namib-Naukluft National Park, the area appears as a surreal landscape, where you can climb on the dunes and take photos of the desert scenery. Take your own four-wheel drive vehicle to the pan area, or book a tour through a local operator. As you explore the area, watch for ostriches, antelopes, and small desert rodents, especially if you visit during a rare flood occurence. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Sossusvlei by using our Namib-Naukluft Park online vacation planner.
